Atheist Texas Mother’s story: ‘Why I Raise My Children Without God’ Essay Stirs Controversy

Why does a Loving God allow suffering in the world? It is the question of all ages and after Hurricane Sandy and the recent child massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, it is especially relevant today. We say, “Satan, not God, is behind all evil, doubters say, “But isn’t God powerful enough to stop evil acts?” God is indeed powerful enough to stop anything, but He operates under certain laws, which He Himself established, that gives humans the choice either to submit to Him and obey His commandments, or reject Him and do evil. God created us to love Him and have a relationship with Him. The relationship would not mean anything if we were controlled by God like puppets. So God has given people the freedom to make choices—and to reap the rewards or suffer the consequences of those choices.”

We, as a nation, told God He was persona non grata in the public square, no longer were we looking to Him as the sole Guarantor of our Liberty and Protector of our nation; yet, we are surprised when he as the Divine Gentleman He is, steps back and does not force us to depend on Him? It is the same personally, we step back from God by our freewill choice and reject His Salvation and cry out against Him when evil things happen and He does not force His way upon us. So, we must understand the concept of freewill when looking at calamity or the sins of our children; did God turn away from us or did we turn away from God? If it is that we that don’t obey Him and reject His Divine direction for our lives; then have we any complaint when evil comes our way and He does not rescue us?

Yet, three things are important for us to know: (a) Rain falls upon the just and unjust alike, the calamities of life are part of God’s refining fire for His children, so they too are not free from tragedy and pain. God does not promise that we will, only that when they do happen he will be there beside us to comfort and guide us and see us safely home. (b) Since Adam and the Garden, we have, humans have through rebellion against Him, caused the Garden of this earth to be a desert in many ways, physically and spiritually; and, we are bearing the fruit of our own folly. (c) God told us that atheism would take over the whole earth near the End Times, and this mother, having rejected God is part of the perfect Divine prophecy of how all flesh would turn from Him and bear the due penalty for their error.

ways of the Bible.

On Monday of this week, CNN posted an article written by Deborah Mitchell entitled “Why I Raise My Children Without God.” In the essay, Mitchell outlines her reasons for disbelief, or dislike, of God, which drive her to keep Christianity away from her children. Among her reasons included her belief that God is a bad parent, that He does not teach children to be good, and that He rather teaches people to narcissistic.

Mitchell began by explaining that she once told her children about Heaven, but has since stopped because she does not believe in its existence. She stated that she is glad that she and other parents are raising their children to be atheists.

“We are creating the next generation of kids, and there is a wave of young agnostics, atheists, free thinkers and humanists rising up through the ranks who will, hopefully, lower our nation’s religious fever,” Mitchell said.

In providing her reasons as to why she desires to raise her children without God, Mitchell explained that she feels God should stop people from committing evil.

“Good parents don’t allow their children to inflict harm on others. Good people don’t stand by and watch horrible acts committed against innocent men, women and children,” she said. “‘He has given us free will,’ you say? Our children have free will, but we still step in and guide them.”
“If there is a good, all-knowing, all-powerful God who loves His children, does it make sense that he would allow murders, child abuse, wars, brutal beatings, torture and millions of heinous acts to be committed throughout the history of mankind?” Mitchell asks.

“He does not keep our children safe,” she stated. “As a society, we stand up and speak for those who cannot. We protect our little ones as much as possible. When a child is kidnapped, we work together to find the child. We do not tolerate abuse and neglect. Why can’t God, with all his powers of omnipotence, protect the innocent?”
